you can see the 5 second EOF looop quite clearly above -the root cause of the empty file seems to be a 500 internal server error - i'm not sure which server is producing this thoough - the MC or PCH? probably MC as PCH just acting as remote rendering client?

note, that when i've previously cued up a file and played through WMP12 MC can quite happily control playback of this, but obviously not able to play the song you actually instructed it to...

any ideas?

Any progress on subtitle and thumbnail support for the LG BD390 ?

I tried to turn on the "Convert Video" option in the DLNA settings to see that subtitles would be streamed, but when that option is turned on, my LG BD390 does not play any video anymore. The message is "Cannot Play File".

To what are the videos converted and/or is this configurable ?

Just for your information that could be useful when checking subtitle support for the LG BD390:

When I use Nero MediaHome 4 , subtitles work correctly and thumbnails are shown for audio/video/images.

I looked around how Nero MediaHome works and found the following:
Information about subtitles is transmitted in the description of the resource.

So I think when looking at Nero MediaHome, you could find the solution to support Subtitles and Thumbnails for the LG BD390

Please let me know if you need any help from my side for testing.

I can report that the DLNA works perfectly with my new Onkyo TX-NR5007 mega receiver. I was very pleased to see cover art show up too. Now I wish all my receivers in the new house were network receivers!
{EDIT} I spoke to soon - there's something wrong when MC acts as controller. If I "send' an mp3 (only format tried) to play on the receiver, it shows as playing, the receiver shows it as playing, but there's no sound! After about 15 seconds playback stops or restarts. Any ideas, anyone?

The latest build had a change for Plugplayer that might affect this. It's on the MC15 board.

hiya, i have some basic questions about DLNA which I hope are appropriate for this thread:

1. connecting a DLNA device with MC makes it show up as a Zone. Can I play to multiple zones concurrently, and *in sync*, ie. across my house wirelessly? I'm currently using Airfoil with an Airport Express and Airfoil Speakers on for this, but I'd like to have something within MC.

2. do I need anything other than my MC server, and the DLNA client (JRiver ID) for this to work?

You can play to multiple zones / devices at the same time. Sync is possible but not very accurate.

You don't need the ID. Any DLNA Renderer should work.

I was finally able to control my Popcorn C200 with Media Center.
For that, I upgraded to MC15 and updated the firmware on my Popcorn.

I experience some lag (about 5 seconds) when I click on play (or next song) which I think is quite long yet acceptable.
What I think less acceptable is when one song finished, the following on my playlist starts after 5 seconds as well.
Is there any way for the buffer to start a few seconds before one song ends in order to have no gap between songs?

Otherwise, I can pause and play again with no lag at all.

The capability to play to multiple zones / devices at the same time is very nice. Now I can play music on my home theater system for my girlfriend when I listen to my own music on my pc with my headspeakers. Very cool indeed

Well, except for the lag between the songs I'm satisfied with the dlna/upnp capabilities of MC. Thank you very much to JRiver team.

Request for JRiver team (yes, one more) : could you make a webOS application for my Palm Pre? Like this, my smartphone can control my PC, which in its turn can control my media box which is connected to my home theater sound system. Wooooah!!!

The renderer MAY already be requesting the subtitle file. If you view the log as you are trying to play a video, preferable an mpeg2 file, do you see the renderer request a file other than the mpeg?? It might show up as something like F12305.1230.sub or F12305.1230.srt. I see PCH does this even when not explicitly given a url for it in the content directory. It'd be useful to know if this is some sort of common behavior.

My LG BD390 uses the DLNA Server, I turned on the logging and tried with several formats (avi, mpeg, etc.), none of them show F12305.1230.srt files, only the F12305.1230.avi files

And the srt files are there with the same name of the movie in the same folder, in MC itself, the subtitles play.
Ofcourse "DLNA Extra" is turned on, because thumbnails do work properly

I did add the subs to the resource list. If you turn on "present subtitle resources" in the advanced options it will do this. You could also try the "present caption resources" switch (separately). It works on most devices that support separate subtitles but there is still a subtle problem with some players I'm trying to decipher...

Matt has a Philips Streamium NP2500 that works nicely. That is made to connect to an amp. Philips also appears to have DLNA audio devices with amp and speakers included in the device.

Just to add to the list, I got myself a Boxee Box and while the Boxee team screwed up the UI design (they had a great UI in the beta but changed it for worse and for no apparent reason) but the good news is that it works great with MC as a DLNA client.

I just purchased an LG BD570. So far it works great as a controller, being able to play content from my MC15 library located on my PC. But it does not show up as a zone in MC, so I can not control it from my PC. While this function is not absolutely necessary, it would be extremely handy at times. Does anyone know how to get this to work, or is this an example of "not all renderers can be controlled by MC?"

After playing around with the box and getting pretty familiar with its features and limitations, I'm pretty sure my original assumption was correct, but it would be nice if anyone could confirm that, or tell me I'm wrong and how to go about fixing the issue.

I am running the latest version of MC15.

I haven't seen a BD player yet that shows up as a controllable renderer. The intel upnp tools are really useful for checking out the capabilities of a device. We have a LG BD player (not your model but close), a Sony BDP-S570 and a Samsung BD-C6500 none of which are controllable.

I succesfully got an Airport Express working using the DPoweramp utility, but only 16/44.1 turned up at the amp. That could be a limition of either the Airport or DBpoweramp

Any ideas?

Hello to all, just discovered MC today. I'm testing it with a Pioneer VSX-1021-K HT Receiver with DLNA 'Audio Renderer' capability. It shows album art and some file info also (Artist/Album/Genre/Bit Rate/..). It doesn't function as a Video Renderer, but that's not what its supposed to do. So far, so good!

In case it helps, I've bought a few of the LG DP1W Multimedia Players to get a friends audio system up and running over Christmas.

They seem to work well, along with a couple of zones using the WD Live units. Interestingly, the LG DP1W wireless operation seems to work at a better range than that of the WD Live, maybe in part because of the size of the unit. Perhaps the antenna is able to be made larger and perform better.

The main application for them in this system is for audio.

And old thread probably worth bumping to mention that DishNetwork's Hopper system now supports DLNA push. MC sees it as a renderer and can control playback. Audio and Image playback works, but video does not yet work in push mode.

Pretty cool.

There is a problem though - the unit presents a dialog asking for permission to play a media file. This locks the MC UI until the dialog is dismissed.

Could you try disabling SetNext support for that zone? (DLNA Controller options).

It doesn't seem to make a difference. In either mode, the dialog is presented, and if I don't confirm, MC's will hang for about 8 seconds and then present the "There was a problem controlling ..." dialog. Once dismissed, the same thing occurs again. It has happened a third time, but I'm not sure what causes this, as it seems the general case is for MC to retry only once after the first failure.

If this is a big No No, I can contact the Dish folks via their Beta channels.

In either mode, the dialog is presented, and if I don't confirm, MC's will hang for about 8 seconds and then present the "There was a problem controlling ..." dialog. Once dismissed, the same thing occurs again. It has happened a third time, but I'm not sure what causes this, as it seems the general case is for MC to retry only once after the first failure.

If this is a big No No, I can contact the Dish folks via their Beta channels.

It's always going to stall at the point unless one can disable the approval prompt on the Dish box.
Now, the first message should probably not require a OK. Still though you are going to get the "something went wrong" message.
You might try the silent mode to get rid of the error messages...
