Here is what I have noticed:

click on "settings" - "options" causes it to freeze while trying to open Options dialog box.

right click on a song to open "properties" and the "properties" box opens but the bottom portion is kind of funky; it shows what was behind it almost like a dialog box that freezes upon opening but you can still navigate the tabs under properties.

Click on "playlist" then "recently played" and select a song,  any song, and it starts playing and crashes.

click "playlist" then right click "add new group" adds a new playlist group and crashes it.


Something is different about the library backup.  Before I uninstalled 7.2.280 I "backed up" my library, and it creates those .jmd files.  But now when I go to "restore" in the new MJ,  it asks me for a .zip file!  It can't open .jmd files?
So,  I used winzip to put the 5 .jmd files into a .zip archive which MJ opens.   All my song & tag info is there, but the links to external cover art files are gone from "properties" view.

Click on one of my playlists,  it crashes.

Is this a known bug,  all these crashes?  Is anyone else getting lots of crashes?  What am I doing wrong?

My "about" box says MediaJukebox version 8.0.246

But I downloaded it from the ftp link in the post below that says 8.0.248 available!

So I tried downloading again,  same file!

I'm not getting 8.0.248??

when it askes you to save the file name, make sure you note the path, and change the file name from

MediaJukeBox8.exe to MediaJukeBox8.0.248.exe

then install MediaJukeBox8.0.248.exe

8.0.246 was pulled about 15 mins after it was out since it did not work correctly.

Maybe this is why I've had MADNESS installing my license and MJ8 crashing so badly! J River needs to fix that link in the 8.0.248 beta download thread! Trying again now.

it is not the link, what it is is, IE sometimes thinks it is the same file since the file names of the new builds are the same. and when you try to download the new build it will do a 6 meg download in 1 second or so, as you and i know there is currently no way to download 6 megs in 1 second, so there must be something wrong.

what is wrong is MicroSoft's Internet explorer

also what may be wrong is some users think they save a file in a location but it really is saved in another and if they do not open the file right after a download and they find the old file they run the old beta and not the newer one.

It would be nice if J river incremented the version number in the file name with the builds, but that has never been there policy.

there is always the Help, and Check For Update option in MJ

To anyone having problems with "2.0.248",  follow King Sparta's advice in saving the download.  This is waht caused part of the problem.

Now my MJ is not crashing, and it is indeed 2.0.248

THe only problem I can see now is that when I "restore" my library it does not give me my playlists!  All the songs are in there, with tag info,  but there are no playlists!  How do I get my old playlists without having to re-build them?
