Disabled system audio during playback

JR18 seems to disable my audio for all other programs when its playing music (i.e. skype alerts etc) is there anyway to stop this?

This is normal with hardware direct output (which is what you want if you're picky about audio quality).  More here:

You can use DirectSound in Options > Audio if you want to play through the Windows Mixer (so not hardware direct).
