cannot display HD channels with AC3
« on: October 10, 2013, 01:51:09 am »

I have two computers with a dvb t receiver. On both I can receive and display all sd and HD channels on windows media center. However with JRiver I can see only sd channels or HD chanels with audio mpeg  not ac3. Even on one of the computers channels with ac3 are not found.
I reside in France, I use win8 pro  and JRiver 19
ie
This channel is displayed
Network ID: 8442
Service ID: 1031
TSID: 4
Frequency: 506000
Bandwidth: 8
ONID: 8442
Audio PID: 730
Video PID: 720
Audio format: MPEG-1 Audio
Video format: AVC1/H.264

This Channel is not displayed on one of the computer and not even found on the other one although Windows Media Player plays it on both.
Network ID: 27
Service ID: 1282
TSID: 5
Frequency: 522167
Bandwidth: 8
ONID: 27
Audio PID: 210
Video PID: 220
Audio format: Dolby AC3
Video format: AVC1/H.264

What should I do in order to get all channels found and displayed?

Thanks in advance.

I can not think of a reason why this is happening.  Please provide me a log.  I hope it will give me some clues.  Please refer to this thread about generating logs.  Email the log to me - yaobing at jriver dot com

I receive the log from you this morning.

The problem channel you mentioned above, as well as the other channels in the groups MR5, MHD7, and R8 have one thing in common - we failed to find an audio stream in these channels.

CMPEG2SectionsAndTablesParser::ParsePMT: TSID: 5, SID: 1282 (MR5, France 2 HD), PMT PID 210, video PID 220, audio PID 0 ()

Perhaps there are other ways of presenting an audio stream that I am not aware of.  I see streams with stream type 6 for example, but do not know how to interpret it.  Does anyone know?

In some countries (Australia, UK etc., even in France as shown in your log) AC3 audio streams are presented as Type 6, and described with a descriptor of ID 0x6A.  Such descriptor was not found in the cases of those problem channels.  However, all of the problem channels (that are missing audio PIDs) have one thing in common, they do have one or more streams that are of type 6.  Maybe they are the audio streams?  Do you recognize some of the PIDs that are labelled "OTHER: "?  And how do we identify them in MC?

I check the PID with another tv software ProgDVB6 , the PID shown as OTHERS are the audio channels. In the above exemple PID 130 is given as AC3 french, PID 131 as AC3 qaa , PID 132 as AC3 qad. It is the same for the other channels.
After doing some google search, I realize that these channels are  not AC3 but AC3+ or enhanced AC3 or eAC3. And then I found in this document page 28 , http://www.csa.fr/content/download/16480/308960/file/CSA%20Profil%20de%20signalisation%20v3%203.pdf , that  its descriptor ID is not 0x6A but 0x7A. (Enhanced_AC_3_descriptor).
The above document being in french , I have searched for a document in English for you and I have found this one http://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_en/300400_300499/300468/01.10.01_40/en_300468v011001o.pdf
Please look at page 31.
Are JRiver already taking  0x7A into account ?

Thanks for the info.  This is very helpful.

No.  That is why we are missing these channels.
