Cover Art Problems in Theater View
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:07:47 am »

Anyone else with Cover Art Problems in Theater View?

In all Theater Views my Custom Cover Arts are not displayed correctly.
The Covers MC downloads itself are correct.
But i sort my Filetypes. So BluRay Movies have Bluray Covers,DVD have DVD Covers, etc.,and not only a Poster of the Movie.
I only use MC Cover Downloads with DivX Movies.
Seems to be a aspect ratio problem.
Because the height of Bluray Covers and MC Cover Downloads are different.
MC creates bars on top and bottom of the Bluray Cover.Looks Ugly.  :P
Last Build was working properly with all kind of covers.

Quote from Matt:
Movies and TV series images now enforce a 2:3 aspect ratio for cover art.

Why enforce this aspect ratio. It was working good as it was before.
Don't say i have to edit every Cover i have to reach this ratio for a correct View.
Not a good change,i must say.

Ok,but it would be nice if custom covers could be stretched or something else to fit this ratio.
I have hundreds of covers that have this problem.

A littlebit more flexibility for selfmade covers would be nice.
I think not all of us are using the automatic cover downloadsystem for all files in MC.
Now we have to edit every cover we download from a different source to fit this ratio.
Again,not a good choice.

I would rather have the "donut holes" back again, than this.
Simply adding a cover and the donut hole is gone, if you don't like it.
That feature takes away the free configurable feature of MC a bit,i think.

Are you using something other than standard 2:3 movie posters for your movies?  If so, could you explain what or show a screenshot?

Thanks.

I get the problem with DVD vs Bluray covers. This would be a problem for me as well, if I did not just use the standard covers from TMDB. Serious collectors that have other sources like PVD will probably not be happy about this?

I use something like this for BluRays for Example, but they have all different sizes.
Some were collected with Google or made by myself.
So i can see immediately when browsing my library with coverflow if the movie is in HD or not.
And it looks nice i think.Looks like a virtual bluray collection. ;)
Would be a pain in the a** if i need to edit them all to fit 2:3
To compare, the second one shows how it looks now:
Not so nice,i would say.

I must say I agree. I don't like the new look of the covers. I liked the fact that I could identify blu-ray or dvd just by looking at the cover. On top of that browsing movies in Theater view, the large cover on the right side of the screen will start with the new look and then shortly after change to the true aspect ratio of the cover giving the animation a jerky look.

I am not sure why this was changed. I think covers were presented in a way nice before this change.

In a coming build:
Changed: Tuned the aspect ratio handling for movies and TV shows.
Changed: Made thumbnail aspect ratio standardization optional (Options > Tree & View > Thumbnails > Standardize aspect ratios).

Looks like a good fix. Thanks.

Bug/Issue:
I want to report another problem with cover art. When grouping movies or series in for example "Genre", you get a stack effect. The problem starts when you enter the Cover Flow view. The stack effect in it self is not a problem, but the "3D Cover" effect is drawn as one single cover surrounding the WHOLE stack of covers. It looks very very bad. Please look into removing the 3D effect for stacks of images.
