Importing/Updating to MC18 from MC16
« on: January 12, 2013, 11:52:44 am »

I downloaded MC18 this morning and am trying to import my music Library.  I tried AutoImport, but when it imported the files from my storage drive it dumped over 70 ripped CD's into a file labelled "Unkown Album by Unknown Artist". I tried to import the files manually, and they were still imported as "unknown"  All these files were correctly shown in the MC 16 library.  Is there any way to correct this?  I also tried to import using Library Restore, but MC18 doesn't  show or recognize the MC16 library backup files.

Thank you
Charles

Did you have your previous MC set to Write tags to files?

I am not sure about writing the tags. Where is this setting selected?

Thanks, Charles

Good news!  I solved the problem.  I went into MC16, selected Library Restore and copied the zip file location, and then pasted it into MC18 Library Restore function and it restored all of the files correctly!

File > Update Tags When File Info Changes

I think it is there in MC16.

For one of the files that shows no metadata in MC18, in MC16 select a single track, go to the Tag Action Window, and click the very first line (which indicates the file type).  A tag dump window will open.  You can copy/paste that information here if you don't know how to interpret it.
