Acquire images folder rules options
« on: April 10, 2013, 10:36:48 pm »

Can we setup different rules other than [year]\[date]\?
I like to make folders based on dates taken. And possible some other possible tags

It doesn't appear so generally.  While the value for the Images folder rule is stored here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 18\Properties\File Location - Images Directory Rule

it appears that only [Year] and [Date] are interpreted tags.  You can use static text, such as:

   [Year]\Family\[Date]

The reason the full expression language syntax is not available is because the destination image path is built _before_ reading the image or copying the file.

With some types of acquisition, we really can't read the file to get tags until after it's been copied.  We could first copy to a temporary path, then move the file based on an expression, but that could hurt performance.

I understand. I'm running into this in Picasa. That is why i was testing JRiver to see if it could help.

My nexus 4 phone is not working correctly in Picasa. All image are importing into one folder. Instead of by the date taken.
So i have to copy local then import from a folder. Not fun when you trying to tell others what is the best way to import their images.

You have my vote for an advance options. That is slower.
If it means better management options and easier to use.  ;D
