I'm getting the error Failed to connect Video decoder to source / splitter in MC when I try to play videos I have imported from my GoPro Hero2 video.

They are imported and converted to avi files and I can play them in Windows Media Player but not in MC.

I can record a short one to upload if needed.

I tried ROHQ and ROSTD.

Golly the original 8MB MP4 becomes a 70MB Avi when it gets imported!

I had the same issue.

Opened it up in VLC to check codecs.

The video codec code is "CFHD" and the audio codec is "PCM S16 LE (araw)"

I've never even seen either of those before. You should try to encode your video in more standard formats. Hopefully whatever program you are using to convert it gives you other options about the format.

EDIT: Yea, CFHD is a proprietary Cineform codec. LAV only supports open / standardized codecs.

Well the video codec is "CineForm" but I don't think that is what is being recorded by the GoPro... isn't CFHD a transcode from an editing package?

Why not just keep the files in the .mp4 format that the GoPro records directly?

Having to convert to a non-standard format that blows up the file size by 10x doesn't seem preferable to me

In chatting with Richard, it is an intermediate codec used for editing (not designed for distribution) but the prog is having issues exporting the projects back out in MP4.

Correct, so I now have these cineform avi files that I can't convert back to mp4 and won't play in MC.

Time to look for a new video conversion tool... the one I have from 4videosoft only plays the audio not the video.....

Thanks I'll take a look.

I'll also add that Windows Movie Maker handles the cineform avi files fine and then allows me to save them as wmv files.
