Security
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:50:12 am »

I'm currently using Gizmo to remote control MC18 from *inside* my home network.  I see that, with Port Forwarding, I should be able to access MC from *outside* as well.  From what I've read, the typical setup is to configure my router to forward requests from the internet, on port 52199, to the MC18 server on my home network.

Can anyone speak to whatever security controls, if any, exist in MC18 to limit access to the music server.  Or, can anyone who sees my outside IP address and finds port 52199 open come in and play?

Thanks

You should enable authentication in Options > Media Network if you open the port.

With that enabled, it's perfectly safe.  There are no known security vulnerabilities, and if one should ever be found, it will be fixed immediately.
