Girder or AutoHotKey will be the most flexible way to program your remote.  Both can easily launch a MCC command.

If you're looking to do it from within MC, I'm of no help.  Sorry.

You can set up a custom keyboard shortcut to doing an MCC command:

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/User_Defined_Global_Keyboard_Shortcuts

Then set your remote software to doing a keyboard press for a particular key.

For example I have redefined the 'Exit' key on my Harmony to do a 'Ctrl Shift 6' instead of 'Esc'. I've programmed 'Ctrl Shift 6' to do an MCC command for 'Theaterview Home'.

It's quite straightforward to modify the XML file and you can even open an external program.

So, for me, I did all from the remote control options:

"Tools > Options > Remote Control"

Click where it says "Commands" to be presented with the following list, click "Add > Custom"....

Here, Click "Add Run"

The next dialogue is self explanatory, and as the MC18.exe program is in the windows system folder, you only need to enter that, MC18.exe in the program field, placing the MCC parameters in the second field.

Once done, select your new command in the list, click the "Start Learning" button, press your remote button, press the stop learning button, test your remote has actually learned what you asked it to. Works for me.

It's probably best to test your "MC18.exe /restart" string in the Windows run dialogue first so that you know it is working.

Very good info Marco. How do you know what the "button code" is for the specific remote (i.e. I want to assign the button labled "Next" on my Harmony 510 remote to run an MC command).

there is this button, see the first screenshot from marko, called: start learning. select the commend you want to assign, click start learning, press the button on your remote.
