I'm not sure if this is possible at present, but what I liked about Windows Media Center is when typing letters to jump through lists it shows you what you've typed.

So to get to The Lion King, you hit T...H...E...space...L...I... etc etc. The visual display tells you if you've hit the wrong key. Since is mobile phone type-lettering if using a remote rather than keyboard, I think this is quite useful.

Bump!  I would also like to see this feature or better yet an option under the "Theater Mode settings" to turn this function on or off.
