Bios Field
« on: February 22, 2013, 06:03:15 pm »

Still in the process of setting up my JRiver 18 in the way it used to work before my computer crash / total rebuild.

This time, I cannot get my "Bios" field to display the biographies I have for the 1000s of artists that I have in my database. I have added "Bios" under Options / Library & Folders / Manage Library Fields / Add New Field as a Large Value String (my Biographies can run into 100s of words) and added "Bios" as a display field. Running an "auto import" or updating selected files from Tags to try things out still leaves the "Bios" field blank.

Should I be doing anything else? How can I check whether this field is saved in the tag of my files? And if they are not saved in the files themselves, where could I find them?

I have various older libraries backups from prior to the rebuilding of my PC that I could revert to, if necessary, all the way from JRiver 17 to JRiver 11 (which is when I sent up the Bios field in the first place)

I am running the latest build (136)

Can you show the Tag Dump for one of the tracks with a Bios tag?  You can copy/paste the entire dump here.

Thanks for the help offer. Here is one example:

Monkey's Audio 3.99 (high)
Format: 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, 2 ch
Length: 3:56
Compression: 28.81% (11.5 MB / 39.8 MB)
Tag: APE Tag 2.00 (54017 bytes)
   Track: 11
   Year: 1985
   Genre: Classical
   Artist: Schubert
   Peak Level: 0.87668
   Tool Version: 11.1.201
   Title: Frühlingstraum
   Media Jukebox: BPM: 60
   Tool Name: Media Center
   Comment: Exact Audio Copy
   Media Jukebox: Date: 31048
   Media Jukebox: Intensity: 1
   Replay Gain (radio): -4.50488
   Album: Winterreise / Fischer-Dieskau, Brendel
   Lyrics: <too large to display>
Cover Art (front): <too large to display>

cannot see the Bios field. I used to use JRiver 11 to do most of my tagging including filling in the Bios field. I would then update the library in whatever was the latest JRiver version.

Is it possible that the Bios tag only existed in the MC database and not as part of the tagging of the file ?
I think you should go for one of your library backups.

Right, so it appears that the BIOS tag was not written to the files.  You'll have to dig out your old version of MC's backed-up library and restore to capture this information.   I'm not sure how many versions back the current MC will read.
