MJ8 & Video
« on: April 05, 2002, 12:02:44 pm »

Overall, it seems like including video was an afterthought in MJ8.  Zoom settings buried in a properties menu, no on-screen controls when using in windowed-mode, etc.  Is this because the software is currently beta?

You can drag the corners of the window to resize.  You can switch to full screen with the icons shown.  In full screen mode, controls should be there when you move the mouse.

If you will explore the options there, you may find you've missed some.

Video was not an afterthought.

That's all great, and it wouldn't take much for me to miss a feature -- but I'm aware of all those you mentioned.  The controls that appear at the top of the screen when in full-screen are exactly what I wish were available in windowed-mode, currently these are available by right-clicking or pulling up the main MJ window.

Manually resizing a window works well, though the user doesn't know what they've zoomed the original encode to.  It would be nice to have the option to get a 100%/200% zoom with a single click.  A welcome addition would be an option to set a default zoom level -- currently, there is a setting for this buried in right-click-menu-land but it's for that session only, next time the program is run this setting is retured to 'custom'.

I think the much improved video player in MJ 8 is GREAT! I quickly discarded the (clumsy) version in MJ 7 but now with MJ 8 its my video (and music of course) player of choice.
I have my PC set up with sound and TV-out connected to my surround system and big-screen TV in the living room and I use my IR-cordless mouse as a remote. This way I play all music, radio and video with MJ (I only have a standalone DVD-player, have to get one for the computer).
That said I would like to ask about something.
When watching movies like divx and mpeg’s (and DVD i guess) searching trough the movie is not optimal in MJ or any other player that I’ve tried. So my question: are we going to see any improvement to that? It would be nice to have MJ handling this more in the way of a standalone DVD-player – searching, with picture, in different speeds 2x, 4x, 8, etc.

Are there any freeware/shareware packages that allow cropping or rotating of video files?
