JRiver at AXPONA 2013 with 3 Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DACs
« on: March 11, 2013, 03:16:30 pm »

AXPONA 2013 was an audio show in Chicago this past weekend. I just read on enjoythemusic.com that one of the rooms had JRiver playing with 3 Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DACs for playback of ripped multi-channel SACD's.

MYTEK is touting being the first company to handle multi-channel SACD from USB files ($4800)! Here's the deal on how they do it. First you get three of their two-channel units plus of course a computer for file storage and control. Then users simply launch JRiver software and BAM, you have multi-channel SACD in audiophile sound quality.

Why 3 myteks ? you can do it with 1 Exasound e-18 (agreed on the fly conversion to high-res/DXD PCM) and even "unofficially" native DSD at least 2-channels...works superbly !

You answered your own question. Since the Mytek decodes DSD, some don't want conversion to PCM.

agreed...wasn't very explicit...I do not find it correct to say first company to handle multi-channel SACD from USB files. I would agree if it would have been achieved with one DAC and not with three..

Is it true that the Myteks have a fan in them, or was that just older models? I have been thinking about purchasing a new DAC recently, and was leaning towards the Benchmark DAC2, but the Myteks were on the list of DACs I was considering.

But Mytek's ability to sync up the clocks and act as a single multichannel device is tempting - even if I am probably unlikely to actually buy another two DACs, it's a nice thing to have.

I don't believe there are any moving parts.

The DAC does get warm while it's on, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I've already got two myteks, but still waiting for their next firmware and usb driver release, which would enable multi channel dsd playback.
