TVShow Coverart Missing
« on: March 09, 2013, 01:03:39 pm »

Hi, I am running MC18 in server/client mode with one server and three clients. Everything has been fine until just recently when I have just started having some issues whereby in Theaterview/TVShows some of the coverart is missing. One series which I only imported yesterday has no coverart for either the series or the season on any of the clients. some other shows have the series coverart but not the season art. However, in all cases both the series & season coverart is visible in Theaterview on the server. Also, the missing coverart is not consistant between the three clients whereby different season coverart is missing on different clients. I have tried deleting the shows from the database and re-importing them but I still get problems.

This all started when I had to change the unc path names to the import folders. All the physical data is the same but I had to edit the import folder paths. After this I deleted everything from the database and did a full import after which I started having all these issues. As already stated, everything looks fine on the server itself, it is only the clients which are effected.

I don't know where to start looking for a solution to this issue. If someone could offer any advice I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

Perhaps a little more explanation is neccesary.

Here is a screenshot from Theaterview on one client:

As you can see, the coverart for Mrs Browns Boys is missing. If I go into it then the season coverart is missing also as shown below:

However, if I view these in Theaterview on the server all the coverart is present and correct. This particular series has no coverart showing on any of the three clients.

Also, some of the other series have the season coverart missing but not consistantly across the different clients. For example, on one client the season coverart for 'Fawlty Towers' is missing but on another client it is present. However, that client may have another season coverart missing which is present on the first client.

I have tried deleting the server library on the client and recreating it and I have even tried uninstalling MC18 on the client and then reinstalling it but the problem still remains. In all cases the media actually plays fine, it is just the coverart that is the trouble.

I just don't know where to go with this. Everything was fine until I had to change the UNC paths to the import folders in options on the server. I don't even know if this is an issue on the server or the clients.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Right, I'm making some progress on this now.

As a test I have created a new library on the server and imported my media and now when I access it with the clients all the coverart is present and correct. So it appears that something has got screwed up with the original library on the server.

The problem is that I have a lot of customised views in TheaterView which are reset to default when the new library is used.

So, what I would like to know is whether there is a way to back up all the settings and import them into the new library OR if there is a way to completely wipe the original library so that it cam be re setup but while retaining the settings. I have tried deleting all the media from the original library and then re-importing again but that just gave the same results.

It's taken months to gradually customise my views etc to the way I want them so if there was a way of doing one of the above it would save me a heck of a lot of work.

Please help

It happens to me also sometimes. Forcing a rebuild thumbnail on both the server and client of the missing artwork in most cases solves it. I did have to rebuild the library occasionally. I have under views a specific section for my theater views so I can reapply them easily when needed.

Could you explain this in a bit more detail please. I'm looking for a way to be able to re-create my Theaterview views easily and this may be what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Just create a new library view in the tree for your theater view schemes and add them there.
Then when you want to add or replace one of them in your theater view you can do that in the theater view setting. Under items to show. Choose add and then library item from standard view.

Well I tried rebuilding the thumbnails on both the server and the clients but this didn’t improve the problem at all. As a last resort, before completely trashing the library and starting again, I tried cloning the main library on the server. Once I loaded the new cloned library everything started working correctly. All the clients are displaying the correct cover art and all is good again.

I don't know why the clone is working whereas the original isn't but I'm just happy that it is.
