Exiting OTA TV doesn't close the channel

When we exit the Guide in Theater View and go back to the main menu the TV channel we were watching doesn't close. Shouldn't it close when you exit the guide? Is there a setting we need to check? What we end up doing is manually closing a TV channel and then existing Guide.
