TV as "2nd Monitor"
« on: April 02, 2002, 11:04:51 am »

OK, here is what I want to do:

1) I want the PC monitor to display the usual MJ window.

2) I want to set up an output to a television (a real one, not a PC card), as
a 2nd monitor or whatever, that just shows the full-screen visualization for
the song playing (perhaps with the artist/name text and cover art included).

Can it be done?

If not, how close can I get?

You need to get a video card that supports TV output. There are a lot that do that nowadays. Not sure about making it a second monitor, though. I'm not sure how best to do it as a second monitor though. Although if you're using 98 or later you can set it up with two video cards.

I think it can be done. Look in the help under windows start. Type in monitor in the index search and see what you get. Any relevance?

The more I think about this, the more I think it would be really great.  You want your partying friends to see the visualizations and cover art (maybe even on a projection TV), but you don't want them to have to watch you muck around with playlists, etc.  What do you think, JRiver?

I just added this to the wish list, under "TV as 2nd monitor".

NOW EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO VOTE FOR IT!!

C'mon, think how cool your parties would be.

I think it's one hell of an idea Scronch. I have a 27 inch tv that I would love to use as a monitor. I have the ATI All In Wonder Radeon 32 meg card, gonna vestigate this further.

I think it could definitely be done with a second video card that has TV out. I'll have to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.

My TV has been linked for a while now...but it is just a split of what is on my monitor.

At work my Matrox enabled videocard lets me move from one monitor to the other simply by moving across one screen to the other with my mouse.

The point of all that is that you could place the Visualisation in a window and place it one one monitor/TV and place the MJ program on the other monitor.....then presto you control the program from the computer and your guests see the Viz on the TV.

Hope that gives you food for thought
