Volume control

The MC volume slider works ... but my Mac's own volume control does not.  Is this by design?

Macbook Air (2011)
OS X 10.8.3

EDIT:  Nevermind ... I don't know why it wasn't working before, but after closing/opening MC (166) both volume controls are linked.
