Sound Blaster Extigy

anyone bought it yet?
anyone using it?
can you hookup regular speakers to it?
i was looking at the Yamaha CATIV setup
but for $500.00 alot of money
will this do that?
im not sure if i understand what the purpose
of the extigy is
as always appreciate the help

I would not recommend the Extigy for two reasons:

1. It is based on already flawed Audigy architecture. I will not go into the problems with the Audigy, but there are far better cards out there.
2. To acheive more than 2 channels, the output is compressed (with a lossy method). This is fine if all you play is uncompressed audio, but you probably have a slew of MP3s and such. Compressing already compressed material will make it sound worse.

If you're looking for a high quality USB device for a laptop and only need 2 channels, I highly recommend the SL1200 from Stereo-Link. http://www.stereo-link.com

Seriously. Trelane is correct. I have an Extigy. Went back to the Turtle Beach, though. Thr TB has better sound for a couple hundred less. Hey, what's a great sound card that has Win XP drivers, and 5.1 speaker support?

Santa Cruz?

I recently built my sister a computer and we decided on a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Great card! $60-$70 US. I think more manufacturers should start including the hardware EQ like the Santa Cruz (and the Game Theater XP from Hercules). The bass/treble controls on the Live/Audigy/Extigy suck Next Page

Yes, the Santa Cruz. It's nice having an equalizer even when MJ's is kaput. NYMale40--re regular speaker and the Yamaha product--I'll comment tomorrow.

Listening To: myself snore/snort as my chin hits my chest and I wake up with a start yet again

thats what i like is the yamaha where you can hook up the speakers right to it
whether it be BOSE or Boston Acoustic...doesnt matter..but
i dont want something that plugs into the AIWA i just want
to be able to have speakers setup right here instead of using
the AlTech Lansing computer speakers...outta be awsome if it works
but nothing will ever do exactly what you want it to
