CDDB Lookup not working
« on: March 29, 2002, 01:49:27 am »

It used to work I'm sure, but I haven't used MJB for a while & have no idea where I'm going wrong. All I get is "Socket open failed[S2fa000a]". Can anyone help me?

Try reinstalling.  Another music program is using a different version of CDDB.  Uninstalling the other program may also fix it.

I had uninstalled MusicMatchJukebox immediately after I reg'd MJ. The only CDDB files in "Find" were thr JRiver onhes sorry- ones.
I tried "Search Talkback" & there's such a lot on rthis subject that I'm even more confused. I never gave myself a CDDB reg'n or password when I first installed MJ, & think this must have started when I upgraded to 7.2.
I'm on Win 98 SE & I do hgave ZoneAlarmPro - which didn't interfere with CDDB lookup before.
So should I yunistal & reinstal MJ - or do I have to uninstal & reinstal ZAPro, it's not the new ZAPro version. And what do I do about the CDDB password - MJ keeps saying it's not in the database. Sorry for all thr questions, I just want to get it right.

Me again. I altered ZAPro's "options, access permissions" just then for MJ to give it access to the Internet without having to ask ZA's permission, and CDDB lookup was immediately successful. But I much prefer that all programs have to ask permission to access the Net.
I guess I can use this as a workaround just for CDDB lookup & then restore ZA's usual setting.
Or is there some other way - re-instal something?

thebard,

Unfortunately we are not in control of how CDDB accesses the Internet. We use object provided by CDDB (Gracenote Inc.).

Nikolay

I have had MJ for a few weeks and the CDDB has never worked.  Nothing happens when I click lookup info for track?  Any ideas? Is there any setup info I have forgotten to do? or any reg info I havent filled in?

Thanks

nothing happens, not even a message box that pops up?

no cddb Animated icon that shows up in the upper left of your screen?

in settings, options, Device Settings, Is The Enable CDDB [X] Checked?

Hi Nikolay
Maybe it is time MJ took control again and stuff CDDB ?
Then again I should say for the most part they are OK but when their programme/object/ messes up MJ stops too.

Do you Have A Proxy?

If So You Must Use The Proxy Info

settings, options, Device Settings, [X] Enable on-line CD Lookup Click "Settings"

Enter Proxy Settings If You Have Any

If You Do Have A Proxy But Don't Remember The Settings: This Info Is Listed In Internet Explorer Connection Settings

--------------------------------------

Also you Will See On That Screen CDDB Registration, This Is Required By GraceNote CDDB That You Input Some Of Your Data To Use There CDDB Lookup Service.

>> I have webtrap running
if that blocks like a firewall then that could have been the "socket open fail" msg

i take it it is working now?
