MJ8 and Avermedia TV Studio Problems
« on: March 27, 2002, 11:48:42 pm »

Getting the following message when I scan for channels:

"put_Channel failed.  Cannot setup TV Tuner. Code: 0X80070057"

Is my tuner supported?  Is this a known issue?

Thanks and nice job.  I upgraded last night and I feel like a kid in a candy store!.

ATI cards are supported.  Some Hauppauge cards are.  Others may work.

Thanks Jim.  That kind of stinks as I just dumped my ATI TV Wonder because of the sucky, crappy, piss poor Windows XP software and drivers. I really like this Avermedia tuner.

Odd that your software won't work as the Aver TV Tuner uses a very standard chip (BT868 or something) that is used in Hauppauge and many other brands.  Interesting that MJ works with ATI cards which is the most proprietary of all tuners available.  My old TV Wonder didn't work that well with MJ7.2, no sound.

Not a huge deal as I use PowerVCR to control the tuner, but I don't think it would be that hard to add support.  There are a million third party applications that work perfectly with the Avermedia, but not with ATI cards.

My TV Wonder VE works fine with Media Jukebox, on Windows 2000 and Windows 98. I have not tested it on Windows XP though.

I just fixed the sound problem for TV Wonder USB Edition. But the fix is going to be in the next build of MJ 8 beta, not in MJ7.

And ... there is indeed a bug. Thanks for reporting it.

You can get around this problem by first manually add a known channel, and play it and quit (clicking Stop button). Now you can try Scan channels. A "current channel" parameter is initialized to 0 for first time uses. This value is invalid for channel number. I should have initialized it to 2.

Let us know whether this fixes the problem.

I am glad you confermed this, at least you know it's there.

Thanks!  I'll give it a go. No offense to the ATI TV Wonder crowd, but there is no comparison to the performance of this card under 98 and Windows XP.  For one, you can't capture at 640x480 under XP anymore.  This alone was enough reason for me to trade this card in.  Not to mention the video quality.  ATI's driver and software development is the absolute worst in the industry.

OK, that worked as far as tuning and scanning in the channels, but the video is stuttering big time.  As in poor frame rates.  PowerVCR still working smooth.

You have the all-in-wonder.  The TV Wonder left MUCH to be desired under XP.  I don't like the all in one's as I upgrade my video card every 6 months and don't want the card to TV Tuner dependant.  Geforce 4 4600 is next up.

King,

I thought you have junked your TV Wonder card already. Are you talking about ALL-In-Wonder card instead? Joe Z. is talking about TV Wonder.

Speaking of comparison, I have three TV devices on my computer for the first time in my life (most of this life I had no computer, not to mention TV cards, of course): An ALL-In-Wonder, a TV wonder USB edition, and a Hauppauge WinTV PCI. (I also have a TV Wonder VE, which I mentioned in my other post, but it is not installed at this moment). The TV Wonder USB Edition gives the worst picture quality of the three.

No It Is In A Box Some Place I Don't Use It, Along With About 10 or so Other sorted Cards (Two Of Them Are Tel-Marketing Cards About $1,400 Each).

I Was Capturing On The All-In-Wonder

I Only Have A TV Card:

1. So I Can Be Near My Computer Untill BedTime
2. So I Don't Have To Watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer
3. So I Don't Have To Watch Jerry Springer
