Media Jukebox crashes when transmitting upgrade billing data
« on: March 27, 2002, 04:38:49 pm »

Hello,

I very much wish to upgrade to the pay version of Media Jukebox.  I have filled out the form with all the billing data.  When the program starts to transmit the data to your server, it crashes and causes Windows XP to re-boot.  This has now happened 6 times.  I run Zone alarm and tried it with that prgram turned off but it still crashes and re-boots.

What can I do to upgrade so I can keep using the program.  Is there any other way I can get the upgrade if this problem persists---like calling a number to give my credit info and have a floppy mailed out?

Please help.  Thanks.  Tony   gardner@qec.com  651-494-6726

I know the feeling - my system just completely freezes and I need to re-boot.  Happened to me about 6 times today as well.

Probably the firewall.  It may need to be uninstalled, not just disabled.  One of the other threads from today has the same problem -- and the solution.

Jim

I don't have a firewall installed and never have had - have just downloaded one but have yet to install it so that is not the problem with mine.  Any other ideas?

What version of MJ?  If not version 8, please try it.

Had the same problem yesterday, see answer here:

I had to uninstall totally my firewall, not just turning it off... Believe me...

And for people thinking they have no firewall, remember XP has a built-in firewall.

Alternate solution would be to try from another PC and if it works, exporting the reg key.

Tony,

Check your IE security setting.  Lower it and try again.
Go back to your secure setting after you register.

When we hear from the guy and it works, adding something
to MJ registration notes would really make sense.

There's also an issue of Win ver, and IE version, so it may
work in one place but not another.  Perhaps one of those folks
with problems will tell us, including Win and IE ver.

Buy Button just uses a standard socket to open an encrypted communication.  I don't believe that IE security settings could affect it.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.  I uninstalled Zone Alarm, turned off XP's firewall, lowered the security settings on IE, and then tried to transmit the billing data.  When it gets to "getting Signed Keys"   BANG!  it crashes yet again.  So what I would like to do is this---I live about 4 miles from JRiver's offices in downtown Minneapolis.  I would like to come over with my credit card and buy the program upgrade on a floppy disk. After all, I have the money and would like to keep using the program and you folks have the program.  I have spent too much time dealing with this issue to keep trying work arounds.  Please advise if I can purchae this way.

Thanks,

Tony

I went through all this a few months ago, and I thought to come back now to see if the purchasing problem was fixed with Windows2000/XP.

At the time, we went through all possible combinations of software and hardware, the closest we got to it was a Network driver, the way purchasing MJ worked, and Windows steadfastly refusing to bend to this intruder of software, protecting itself by rebooting. We could get Windows to bluescreen by turing on Diagnostics and to see what the problem was. The file was ndis.sys, I think, it was the one reported to have caused the bluescreen. Seemed odd it would blue screen when working with a non windows product.

MJ can only be bought through this absurd mechanism within itself, and despite the number of installations that exhibited this problem, it was deemed "not worth pursuing" since MJ could not replicate it. Mind you, the amount of machines with this problem, looking through the lines here is significant.

Conclusion: I gave up on MJ totally and bought Sound Forge. It works, & works well!!

OK, how come I get a ruler to the knuckles for posting borderline locker-room humor (wherein the strongest word was "porn"), but this guy(?) can use the nickname "Bollocks", as in male reproductive glands?  I seriously doubt he intended the "destroy" definition...

Hi Bollucks.

Well, I have not yet back from MJ as to my request to drive over to their offices with a credit and just buy the program on disk.  It seems to me they should agree to this since I am willing to buy the product theyare in the business of making.  I may give this Sound Forge a try and see if I like it.  I agree with you that this billing data transmitting issue should be fixed and not ignored.

Thnaks,

Tony
