I have 2 SD cards, one intended for our Honda and the other for our Audi.  I'd like to put 192kbps quality MP3s on the device intended for the Honda, but 320kbps quality on the card intended for the Audi.  I've tried a number of conversion settings for the Audi device (including 'always convert'), but MC18 always copies what is in the conversion cache (... in this case previous conversions for the Honda ...)

I could only get it to do what I wanted after expanding the stack and deleting what was in the conversion cache.  It would seem the setting for 'Conversion=>Audio=>Mode:" should include "ignore conversion cache"(?)

Also ... Can I suggest you add an option under the 'Stacks' menu that will simply "Remove Cache".  As is it's a multiple step process and, unless very careful with what is selected, a bit dangerous as well

Please advise ...

Out of curiosity ... what is the practical difference between "unstack" versus "expand stacks", both seem to do the same thing, i.e., display the cache ...?

The issue with the existing conversion cache seems so obvious it makes me think I'm missing something(?)... else, at least hoping a fix is easy and forthcoming(?)

As I ponder investigating the possibilities of sync'ing a playlist to a new iPod I want to dedicate to our Audi, I realize I'll run into this problem again whereby my current conversion cache represents conversions made for a USB drive dedicated to a lesser media player in our Honda.  Looking further, I find an older JRiver topic that asks "Can I delete the conversion cache?"

This would seem precarious because those files in the conversion cache are associated within the MC database as stacks, and in fact, forum subscriber 'Marco' provides a technical means to delete the cached files from within MC .. but also includes warnings and caveats.

Interestingly, forum moderator 'JimH' suggests renaming the cache first for realizing any possible problems.  This gave me the idea ... maybe I could rename the current cache and associate it with "Honda_USB".  If this exposed no detrimental effects, I'd proceed with writing or converting files destined for the Audi's iPod ... subsequently renaming its cache folder, and so on(?)

However, this still raises questions as to how current caches are associated with database entries tagged as "stacked"(?)  It all seems precarious, when all I want to do is appropriately convert tracks destined to different devices!  That is, does JRiver expect us all to have only a single portable device?  Surely someone has found a work-around because he has a 80gB iPod and his daughter has a 4Gb Senza(?)  ?
