Audio Mode and Format settings???
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:59:13 am »

I would like to know about the settings in Options | Media Network | DLNA Servers.

In particular, for audio, there is an option for Mode and Format. I understand the Mode settings, but not the format choices.

The choices I see are:
PCM  L16 No header
PCM L24 No header
PCM L16
PCM L24
and a few mp3 choices that I will not use.

What do they mean and how do I choose?

Thanks in advance.

If your device works with PCM L24, that's the best choice.

It's 24-bit PCM, which is the highest supported by most DACs.

I am not clear about about with or without a header, but the L is Linear and the number is the bit depth (ie the number of signifcant digits) of the sound.

PCM (pulse code modulation) is the standard digital modulation that is used for audio transmission.

So as Matt says use the best first, then step down if that does not work.

Thank you. Another (possibly related) question:

There are options for different zones related to:
Ignore Transport Events (use polling mode)
Disable SetNext Support (for broken renderers)

What do these do (and where are they documented? - I looked but could not find them).

Thanks again!
