Tracks "lose" a few seconds during conversion
« on: May 29, 2013, 03:36:22 pm »

Just converted 3 Itunes tracks to 128 CBR MP3 and all 3 lost a few seconds from the end of the track. Got silence instead of music and when I looked at the waveform the tracks had been cut off but the track length remained the same

Is this a Media Center issue or something else? Converted an Itunes album in the same way via the last build - worked flawlessly.

Please start a new thread with details.  What format were you starting from?

They were M4A format. I'll start a new thread.

I converted 3 M4A files from Itunes into 128 CBR Mp3 files using the lattest MC18 build and every one "lost" a few seconds from the end. Although the tracks remained the same length the music at the end was abruptly cut off a few seconds too early and the rest of the track was silent.

This has never happened before and I did the same conversion for an album on the previous build of MC18 and all tracks were converted perfectly.

Can anybody tell what is going on here as until I can be sure that MC is working OK I don'tr want to risk any more file conversions. Thank you.

Can you reproduce the error?  Reboot first.

I'm sorry, I've been trying to reproduce this but haven't been able to yet.  Do you have any M4a files you could send me?
If so, Email me at (adam at jriver [dot] com) without spaces.

Thanks!

Hi Adam, Thanks for looking at my conversion issue. I've sent you an email. John.

Hi John, unfortunately I've tried all the files you sent me and I can't seem to reproduce the problem.  I've tried CBR/ARB encoding with a target bitrate of 128 kbps and all the files come out without losing any sound.  Other bitrates don't seem to cause it either.  Does the problem still occur?

Hi Adam / Jim, Thanks for trying to find out what has been happening here. I've been trying to replicate the problem too using the M4A files I sent you Adam. Unfortunately all the tracks have 3 secs or so silence at the end and so I can't tell if the music is being cut off as it was before. I'll wait till I get some tracks that contain music right to the end to see if they get chopped off.

I've changed my preferences to retain the original file on conversion so that at least I don't lose the tracks completely as I did with the 3 when the conversion went wrong.
