High sample rate ALAC needs to be resampled.
« on: May 03, 2013, 08:02:24 am »

The iPod doesn't properly play any file above 48khz. The audio sounds like its being played back at 1/16th speed.

So any alac above 48khz needs to be resampled before being sent to the iPod. But jriver is not doing this and sending the file as is.

I am seeing the same issue. It appears that using dsp studio allows the samplerate to be converted but the destination file(on ipod)remains unchanged. In my case I am converting flac to alac and attempting to resample in the process with albums chosen manually.

Should this be working? is the process documented somewhere?

For my workaround I converted all alac to flac.

MC already has support to automatically convert incompatible formats for ipod sync, so I'm just letting MC convert the flac to MP3 on extreme quality.  It appears it also downsamples the music at the same time.  While it's not lossless, it's better than nothing.

Hopefully the devs add support for automatic alac resampling for sync.

+1 on this

If using a generic Handheld folder to sync (ie: export music to) for purposes of iTunes syncing to a modern iDevice, how does one specify the max bitrate supported?  If I have a 24/88.2 FLAC file, I want MC18 to convert it to ALAC 24/48.

I already know how to specify which FILE TYPES the generic Handheld will support, but I do not know how to specify which SAMPLE RATES the generic Handheld will support.

thank you
