Tagging files on an NAS
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:56:53 pm »

I'm not clear how JRiver updates tags on files on an NAS.

I have a Netgear Ready NAS.

I connect to it from my PC using JRiver 18.  I imported all of the files on the NAS into J River.

If I update/modify tags on these NAS files using JRiver on my PC, are the changes now stored on the files on the NAS, or are they specific to the PC on which I made the changes.

If the latter is the case, is there any way I can use JRiver to make permanent changes to tags on files stored on the NAS?

Tags on files that support tags will be written to the file, other file formats that do not support tagging, like video, will have JR sidecar files written to the directory that the files reside in. The JR sidecar files will have the tag information in them for the file.

When you imported the files from your NAS they did not move or copy to your PC, a library was made of them. The changes to the tags will reside on the files on your NAS.
