Hi all,

Brand new to MC having moved from winamp because of problems it was having with my Samsung Galaxy S3.

Is there a way I can build a smartlist of stuff *not* on either the phone or its SD card? I've tried a simple rule "filename (path) does not contain" ... but this doesn't work. Basically it seems these rules can only be run on stuff in the library. And of course the stuff on the phone isn't in MC's library.

That would be correct.
The correct approach is you have all of your songs on the computer in MC's library.
You create smartlist(s) that determine what songs you want to also have on your android device.
attach android device to usb and go into portable options screen in MC.
Check boxes on right hand side indicating which smartlists you want to be sync'd to the phone.
