Using 8.0.234:

I decided to add both sequence and track sort columns to my view. Now it seems, regardless of how I set the shuffle button (BTW, which way is which?) or which column I sort by, MJ jumps all over the place randomly.  How do I get this thing to play in straight track sequence?  Thanks.

Go to Settings > Options > Tree & View Settings and set the default Sorting order you want (add columns and order).

Thanks, that pointed me in the right direction. I think it would be clearer (at least to me), if "filename" were among the default choices.  I always precede my filenames with a numeric prefix, so of course that differs from "Name", as I imagine "Name" is pulled from the id2/id3 tag info. "Location" is the closest match, but to me, "filename" makes better sense.
