TV access now reports audio filter issue
« on: July 07, 2013, 02:39:08 pm »

I just tried to watch a live tv program after recording various shows in the last few days.
The screen stays black and eventually reports "Invalid audio decoder or output pin"
I tried switching from WASAPI to direct mode but that did not help.
Audio files work just fine in either mode.

I have video mode set to Red October standard.

Is it possible to watch a program while it is still recording ?

I have a program being recorded but I just see a black screen and a time length of 0:00.
There are multiple CNK files in the directory so I assume the recording process is working.
This may just be another scenario where the TV playing issue is the culprit.

Yes.

The CNK files are part of recordings. They should not be messed with in anyway.

Do you have any suggestions about settings that may need to changed if I want to fix this problem?

I don't think I changed anything but I may have inadvertently caused this when I was forced to reinstall MC.
I am pretty sure I made recordings are the last reinstall.

What is the tuner (make and model) that you used to record the show?

Were you able to watch the same channel before you recorded it?  If so, are you still able to watch it live?

I am using the HDHomerun and I thought it was working fine.
Nothing is working via MC now but of course the turner still works fine with WMC.

I did notice a problem with YouTube video via Chrome; the audio was all garbled after I started playing with MC to try and resolve this issue. But that problem has now been solved.

Since you do see the .CNK files, along with other files in the folder of recording, recording probably works, and the problem maybe with playback part.  In particular, maybe the audio settings is incorrect.

Please try make a very short recording (around 10 seconds, i.e. stop recording a few seconds after you start it).  Zip up the entire folder of the recording and email it to me.  yaobing at jriver dot com

If I can play it, then we will concentrate on playback problem.

Your sample recording works fine.

The log you posted shows that MC did not load LAV filters properly.  Did the computer have internet connection at the time you ran it?  MC needs to download some DirectShow filters.

I think Internet access is always available on that system.
I know that I had no browser issues while I was debugging the problem.

Check folder "C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 18\Plugins\", do you see a "lav" subfolder with lav files (especially LAVAudio.ax)?

Are you able to play other video files (such as MPEG-2 video)?

Yes I can see files in the lav directory, including lavAudio.ax.

MPEG-2 files do not play either. They report "A problem with playback".

Please try renaming the lav folder to lav-save, and try playing a video file.  MC should attempt to download lav.  If MC successfully downloads lav, you can delete lav-save folder.

That seems to be working  :)

I saw the message on the screen about downloading components.
After a short delay the file started playing.
I had to fix a problem with the bitstreaming setting, which I believe was added when I started playing around with settings as I tried to solve this problem.

My current settings are: WASAPI, non-event (old hardware), bitstreaming (HDMI)

So you can play your TV recordings now?  I suppose the previous downloading of LAV filters did an incomplete job, and somehow MC did not catch the error.
