I had a few recent updates fail to install initially due to "JRTools.dll" still being in use, even though media center and media server were both no longer running.  At first I tried rebooting to fix it, and that worked, but I knew that wasn't the real issue (as I'd never really had to reboot with a JRiver update before).  Turns out that, for my system, the issue seems to be connected to external software polling JRiver's ASIO input; anytime I had external software that outputs to ASIO running (DAWs, measurement suites, etc.), the install would fail.  Closing those programs (or disabling the JRiver ASIO driver) allowed the install to proceed just fine, without a reboot.

I read a few other similar reports on the forums, and I thought it might be useful to share my solution
