no longer able to open in exclusive mode
« on: July 17, 2013, 01:32:55 pm »

For the past several weeks, I have been unable to open media center in exclusive mode.  I currently am up to date with MC 18, and have a RealTek High Def Audio driver.  It previously worked with the same set-up, but for some reason I cannot get a direct connection using WSAPI exclusive mode.  I have tried updated audio driver, and even rolled back to prev version.  Same with MC 18.  If I uncheck exclusive mode, it plays up to 192/24 in shared mode with no changes, but says not a direct connection, of course.
I have tried enabling and disabling DSP settings, as well as WASAPI settings like non-event style and floating integer. Now I am only using output settings to match Realtek shared mode, currently 192/24.  Sound is good, but I wonder if it could be better.
Any ideas?  Running Win 7.

Has exclusive mode been disabled for the device in the Windows control panel?

both boxes are checked as below ( I mean above);

In my quest for a direct connection, I tried installing ASIO4ALL on my W7 system.  Good news is I was able to get a direct connection to my RealTek sound card on MC18, blue light on settings appeared (Noire skin).  Bad news is I cannot get any sound from MC18 when set up this way.  Must be a communication issue between ASIO4ALL and my hardware driver, but I thought it interesting I was able to generate a direct connection with it and not with WASAPI.

Thanks for your earlier reply, as that would have been an easy fix.

a little more information in case someone has a suggestion.  I am still unable to get wasapi to play in exclusive mode using mc 18; however, I am able to get wasapi exclusive mode to work using foobar 2000; as well as sound with ASIO/ASIO4ALL on foobar which would not work with mc18.  Looks like the problem is with jriver and not my driver afterall.
