Strange issue after ripping CD
« on: July 30, 2013, 05:11:31 am »

For some reason after I have ripped a CD and it is ejected.  Further CDs I put into the drive can no longer be read by either MC or Windows until I restart the computer?

Has anyone else had this issue?  How to fix?

You could disable the Eject CD after ripping option in Tools > Options > CD, DVD & BD > CD Ripping > Rip Complete Options (if enabled) to see if that helps.

Maybe, for some reason, the eject option is not compatible with your hardware and removes the device instead of just ejecting the disc.

I will try that.

I also noticed now that I didn't think about previously.  When I try to restart the computer it is prevented by the "Secure Rip Report".

Last time I thought it was maybe hidden under the program and I didn't notice.  But this time I went looking for it before I told the computer to restart and it was nowhere to be found.  It only showed up after telling the computer to reboot.

I think the report is getting stuck somewhere and locking the drive until it has been acknowledged.

Yippee, so I'm not the only one with this issue.

I previously posted about this and got nowhere. Think folk thought I was making it up. On phone at present so unable to link to my post.

I love MC and used JRiver for years but since they ditched MFC I've had nothing but stability problems on all my systems.

I am not sure which one fixed it.  I turned off my Virtual drives as I have found in the past that they can cause havoc with other programs that use the drives sometimes.

I also turned off the Auto Eject after burning function.

Since I did these two things at about the same time I am not sure which one resolved the issue.

I may try and re-enable my virtual drive later today when I have time for testing.

Spoke too soon.

It is doing it again.  and again I had closed out of MC (Not at the taskbar level though) and during the attempt to restart the computer windows came back with a program is stopping Windows from restarting.  The program that was stopping it was once again the "Secure Rip Report" and it had the last 6 CD's that I ripped listed in it.

So methinks a bug.

I'm not sure but I think when you do a secure rip it should open a report. It sounds like this report is not popping up but stays in the background. This window prevents further ripping until you confirm/close it.

So when you reboot your system, this process is preventing the reboot.

At least, that's my theory.

After a rip, try alt-tab and try minimizing MC and see if there's a dialog box you're not seeing (it would not appear on the task bar). Try closing MC and look at the processes in Task Manager (details). SEe if there's a Media Center process still running.

Have tried the alt-tab etc.  The dialogue box is not there.

However I have found that instead of restarting the computer I can exit the MC server and then the dialogue box pops up.

Then I can restart MC and continue ripping.

Inconvenient but better than having to restart the computer!

Definitely a bug.

So I guess the question is do these bug reports get picked up in these forums?

Or is there a special process to reporting these type of bugs?

Keep in mind I have only been using MC for about 20 hours or so  (and about 2 1/2 of those were sleep!)

You could check the Windows defaults for AutoPlay. In Windows 7 you go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound >AutoPlay. Set it to "Take no action." When the next CD in put in, Windows sometimes tries to take over the action.

It is best to post a bug in the build thread for the current build. In this case it is 18.0.211.

Hmm.  Just realized I am using 18.0.206.

Maybe the current version resolves the issue?

Only downloaded and installed it yesterday.  Maybe the trial download is not the most current?
