Use two different audio devices in playback of one file ?
« on: July 31, 2013, 07:28:52 pm »

I occasionally see people mentioning using three stereo DACs to playback 5.1 audio, but I have never seen any explanation of how one can get several different devices involved, since MediaCenter always refer to "device" singular.

Does anyone here know how this is done, and is this changing in any way for MC19 ?

(One thing I would like to be able to do is use my much-better-sounding stereo DAC for the front L and front R channels of 5.1, leaving the cheezy built-in motherboard DAC to do the surround and LFE channels.)

I think this is a function of the Mytek DAC driver, and the fact that you can use one DAC as a source clock, with the other two slaved off it.

You could possibly get something working like this using linked zones, but the DACs are likely to drift out of sync.
