Linux

This topic is about more than Linux, but that's where it's starting.  We've been porting to Linux and having some success.  It looks like we'll have pieces of the program springing to life in the next few months.  Like OSX, it is a long haul.

This opens some doors for JRiver, and you should benefit, even if you don't care about Linux.

Hardware
A lot of consumer devices now run Linux.

Devices like NAS drives, for instance.  Our DLNA Server might be nice there.

Media Streamers, as they're called.  Devices that you can play to from your computer.

Blu-ray players, which are a superset of a Media Streamer.  They can play a disc or play a file from another location.

Networked Home
Store or record in one location, play in another.

A router that runs Linux might also serve as a DLNA Server.

Home Theater PC
A computer running Linux, smarter than a Blu-ray player, less expensive than a PC, connected to your TV.

Thanks to Bob, Adam, and Matt for the hard work, and to the rest of the team for their support.

Only one thing to say:
GIMMIE  ;D

Seriously though, if I can just get a DLNA server running with no conversion to serve my fleet of Raspberry Pi's, then I'll be a happy bunny :)

Maybe I need to divert this Win 8 pro HTPC server newly built to Linux.
How far or any time frame?
Or use the extra Asus P6X58A-E pro for Linux project <grin>
Thanks again for the continued development.

George.

AFAICT, a Linux port opens up the door to a lot of appliances, which is a good thing for JRiver, and ultimately us MC junkies.

Several months before we have anything generally useful.
