Seamless track to track CD recordings.
« on: March 17, 2002, 01:56:43 am »

I’m considering purchasing MJ but not until someone can confirm that it can burn seamless CD recordings.

To explain…some CD’s have recordings that although the track changes there is no discernable space between the tracks. Other CD writing software is able to copy exactly by offering the user the ability to copy a CD in one hit.

If I copy a CD to MJ then burn the same tracks to a CD, MJ creates a space and an annoying click between the tracks.

Is there a solution to this in MJ?

How do you copy the CD to MJ ? Do you rip the tracks to uncompressed .WAV files, or do you use compression ? If you do, what compression ?

With most lossy compression codecs (e.g. MP3), you will ALWAYS get a click between tracks (see http://www.r3mix.net - section "Live-Mix"). This is not a limitation of MJ, but a limitation of the format.

If you want to burn gapless CDs, you will have to use lossless compression (APE, FLAC), or use lossy compression that supports true gapless decoding (e.g. OGG).

If MJ can correctly detect your writer (i.e. you are able to deselect the 2 second silence between tracks option), it should be able to create perfect gapless audio CDs.

Are you running winNT/2000/XP? If so, see our aspi help page:
http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/aspi.html

With ASPI installed, you can deselect "use generic driver" on the CD writer settings page and then you can burn without 2 second gaps.
