CDDB doesn't work if CD 1st played without Internet on?
« on: March 16, 2002, 01:57:29 pm »

I have noticed on a number of occasions that if I have previously played a CD without the Internet being on (e.g. no track/artist info supplied etc), that when I play it again with the Internet on - CDDB doesn't do it's thing & supply all the track/artist etc info.

Yet when I play this same CD within Window Media Player (for the 1st time with Internet on) that is does locate all the track/artist etc info via it's Internet link.

So is this a normal situation within MJ, or is something wrong?

Regards - Rusty.

Rusty,
That seems to be the downside of a mostly positive feature. The positive side is that if a CD is "looked up" once, it will "always" be there and won't have to be done again. In other words, you have a database of your CD's whether they've been ripped or not.
The downside is that if inserted but not "looked up", MJ stores that non-information in that same database. It can be overridden easily, though. Right click "Devices/Audio CD(#)" when you reinsert the disk and select "Update from CDDB" to retrieve the information. You do have to be on the internet at the time. But once it's done, it's done.
