Why Media Jukebox have "better/deeper" Virtual Subwoofer compared to recent MC?

I discover and like JRiver's players for only one reason: That heavy and smooth bass in the  Virtual Subwoofer. But since MC V17, the Virtual Subwoofer is no more the same, same on MC 18, even when I set it at 15", I almost feel any difference, even the 8" of MJ or MC version 16 is better (for me).
Why that change in recent version?
