old vinyl ticks and pops on MC
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:53:46 am »

Hi, I tried a search for the above problem but came up empty. For about the last few weeks when listening to my music thru MC18 v212 I get old style vinyl sounds such as ticks and pops, very annoying and unpleasant. I'm using Wasapi mode with a USB DAC that uses USB 1.1 this never happened before. I've tried increasing the buffer from the recommended value and also decreased it no difference. The worst thing about this problem is that it is random. Some days no vinyl ticks or pops then suddenly they make themselves heard.

The DAC is the same since I started with computer music HRT Microstreamer. Nothing as changed in my setup. I got away from vinyl because I didn't enjoy the scratches, ticks and pops so don't want them in digital audio.

I have a similar setup.

Laptop > HRT Microstreamer > Shure SE425/Sennheiser HD650.

Pops/Ticks not 100% eliminated but maybe 95%+.

I practice the following:
1) Use USB port  furthest from power and wireless usb (don't use wireless devices).
2) Only run JRiver on laptop.
3) Use battery to eliminate AC interference.
4) All the connections are not as solid as dedicated home stereo so interference is high (limit physical movement).

Hope this helps.
