JRiver 19 not importing UserRating tag from WMP
« on: September 26, 2013, 08:58:10 am »

I have check in Window Media Player that the tag are there for Star rating. I can see that the "UserRating" and "UserEffectiveRating" are being set as per my rating in the user interface.

JRiver 19 ignore those and leaving the "Rating" value as un set.

Does anyone know why?

Keeping your music rating when you migrate is critical; We need more information from JRiver!

Since I replied to your other post about Rating and WMP, I spent some time following up on this one as well.

I rated 5 files in WMP (Win 7) and imported them into MC.  All the ratings were present.

Can you describe your methodology and file formats?

Hi
99% of my files are .flac or .wav generated using EAC. I then rate them using WMP 12.0.92 in Windows 8.
I do an import using the menu "Tools" then "Import". Using either single folder -or- auto import, the lack of star rating being imported is the same.

I have put a test file here: http://businessforce.ltd.uk/test/DancingQueenABBA.wav

I accessed it from a different computer and the rating did show in WMP; yet if I import this single file in JRiver, nothing?

Thanks in advance

WAV tagging is non-standard, so its no surprise then.  I'm downloading your file now to look at what's inside, but I wouldn't hold my breath.  I didn't think WMP handles FLAC - is it different in Win 8?

btw. you might considering using some service such as Dropbox - your upload speed seems to be about 88k/sec, so the file is taking about 6 or more minutes for me to download.

When I import the file into my local WMP, there is no Rating.   And there are no embedded ID3 tags:

$ id3v2 --list *.wav
DancingQueenABBA.wav: No ID3 tag

so I think it is safe to say MC won't find one either.  :-)
