Sorting
« on: September 05, 2013, 02:25:54 pm »

Why does JRiver choose to ignore sorting fields with empty values?
For example : if you sort by #ofPlays: the "never Played" is always at the bottom of the list.
Same with "Last Played" field, and I assume others...
Is this a bug?
Shouldn't empty field values participate in the sorting?

Sorry about the thread.  I'm trying to see if I can get it made public, as I explain there what you're asking.

There are several sort areas.  Which area in Standard View (Panes columns, File List, Grouping) ?

sorry... The List style is "Details"  , with no grouping...  I can post a pic if you like,,

I use a custom library view similar to files...
the "files" view does the same as described above

The topic should now be available for you to read.  Let me know if you have more questions after that.

No questions.
Just surprised JRiver didn't fixed it.
a simple search list (filter) example:

if  "number of plays"   is less than 3 -> all songs that have never been played will not be displayed...
That's a serious flaw in behavior, and just one example of every possible way of sorting and filtering in JRiver.
It's also a  easy fix to be made by the dev team.

Default empty fields should be considered the minimum value...

Is the Dev Team aware of this?

By design, empty values sort last.  If you don't like this behavior, it's optional in Options > Tree & View > Sorting.
