DIBENG.DLL CRASHES (please help us)
« on: March 15, 2002, 04:24:48 am »

Hello everyone,

If you're experiencing crashes in DIBENG.dll with Media Jukebox 8, please try this:

1) Switch to "Track Info" for your display plugin
2) Close Media Jukebox
3) Start Media Jukebox and play music
4) Let us know if you still experience the crashes

Thank you for your time.

Matt:

Disabled viz in Plugins/Display and elected track infro. Not sure it took, and repeated the exercise on the popup from the main screen.

As each track prepared to open, got a message warning that an Active DX element might produce a conflict with other elements on the page (doing this from memory; I was on the phone while all this was going on). Clicked OK. One or two racks played OK, then excessive buffering. Attempted to stop program, it froze and had to exit with Ctrl Alt Del. Buffering seems worse than ever.

Am in the office now,a ttempting to stream

Matt
Had track info template DJ running with the last lock-up.
Can't say what happened though. Went away for a little while, came back and whole thing froze up. I did get my cursor back with nothing but a black screen. CTRL ALT DELETE didn't even undo it this time.

Should I try one of the other templates without the vis'?

Sorry, let me be more clear:

Use a track info template that doesn't display the visualizations. (we're trying to see if the visualizations are to blame)

Also, this is only in regard to dibeng.dll crashes.

Thanks.

It appears to me that my DIBENG crashes are not necessarily related to the visualizations running, but buffering. Over the past few days I have been trying to get rid of the crashes and have followed some of the other suggestions posted. Yesterday I noticed that the crash happened with the vis disabled or not when MJ started doing a lot of buffering (not just a second or two, but extended buffering). Just now I've been playing tracks for over 30 minutes (a good ten minutes longer then usual) before the app crashed-- playing had slowed and buffering was continual. (Vis were running.)

I will try Matt's test and let you all know.

PII-266, Win98, 160Ram, aprox 55% free sys resources.

Are you running any other audio programs at the same time?  Anything at all?

Have had MJ running for over an hour and a half now with no hangs. Disabled vis' per Matts request. Interesting sidenote no buffering problems.

I previously had been running web browser (always) and ftp server (often) and audiogalaxy (sometimes), during testing over the last couple of
days. As for my last post (today) only MJ.

I have tried Matt's suggestion and turned on the track info (dirt simple) and have had  no DIBENG crash after two hours, but...

first 45 min no other sys activity, all fine
began editing playlists and file info
at 65 min minor buffering started, continued editing
at 120 min buffering got really bad
have stopped editing and bad buffering continues and play is choppy and poppy

I will post this info on the thread about buffering.

[ps- writing this on another machine]

After the last post, quit 'testing' and finished up playlist editing and started to send files to the cd burner-- in MJ. Buffering started and then-- DIBENG crash. (Generic windows b&w error box, click ignore, then standard GPF dialog.) Had been playing tracks while working for 15 min(??). Also had web open.

Matt

I know you are looking for DIBENG.DLL problems but I thought you might be interested in this. MJ had been running for nearly four hours without a problem. This was without any vis' running, no other apps running outside of IE occasionally. Great, just to see I enabled the vis' again and started to add songs to a temporary playlist. Stopped the original files play and started my temp playlist. As soon as I hit play on this file I had this error message come up.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module VIS STUDIO.DLL at 0167:01cb9233.

I think the vis' are giving most of the headaches to everyone. Note I posted my system info in the bufferin thread earlier. Pun intended. Next Page

Another sidenote to the .DLL above. Very hard to disable the vis' when this one comes up. Start player and immeadiate pause can keep it from hanging. Then I can disable the vis and re-start MJ without a hitch.

Problems get worse not better when I utilize the non-viz track info template (Metal Plate). Buffering begins alost immediately on opening the file, I can get through one track and when next file attempts to open, the program aborts.

No other audio applications open. Running IE 5.50.422 and MS Word, utilizing MJ to stream from Music01. Other programs in System tray: Panicware/popup stopper, Hotsync for Handspring Visor. I am behind an office firewall, access MJ through port 8080. Had moderate buffering, usually not too bad, through 7.2.280. Problem has become much worse in 8x, and the Dibeng dybbuk began appearing somewhere around 8.0.210 or .212.

Do not have anywhere near this degree of difficulty on my home computer.

Set up MJ as suggested. played a list of mp3 files for two hours with no problems.

Started a list of mpc files - variable bit rate, but average about 200 - checked status after 45 minutes or so. MJ had crashed with this error:

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module MJPLAYER.DLL at 0177:023e76ff.

There was another error message behind this one that I could not read.

No other applications running.

Hi

Just got home and started MJ

Next I picked a playlist and started playing it(vis was off.)

Next, I clicked start and interact and started reading the thread on the DIBENG>DLL CRASHES, made it thru one song and got the error below.

Had the same problem last night, only MJ played for about 4O minutes than crashed with same error. I have had it happen usaually when I am in IE. Most of the time I have to reboot computer.
I always have DSP Track inf on, my computer is to slow for the VIS.

I have had buffering problems, but not since the last 3 builds.

Thought I would try to see if low system resources was a factor. I was running 45% free resources. Shutdown several things running in the background. Got free resources to 65% or so.

MJ playing list of mpc file, big ones. Processor usage 10% or so. Everything working fine.

Launched Internet Exlporer to browse the web. Procesor useage goes to 30%. System resources stay above 60%. MJ starts buffering. does this for a couple of minutes. Crashes with following info.

Playlist running smoothly for 1 hr.|PLS| on home computer. IE 5.5 open, along with Zonealarm, Pow and Rambooster. Visualizations off, track info activated. Open Plug-in Manager, Click on Display, the click on Visualizations in tree while MJ playing, get the following error message (same as Machinehead):

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module VIS STUDIO.DLL at 015f:0564b7ce.

When I click on Close, I get kernel32.dll error message.

I also see some correlation between DIBENG.dll crashes and Rambooster (or inadequate system resources). When system resources get low, and RB does not automatically restore them, open Rambooster and click optimize while files are playing: MJ freezes, followed by the DIBENG.dll error message.

Crashed about 45 min. into playlist while I was preparing email. ZA, Pow, RamBooster running, several browser windows opened, minimized to task bar. Resources probably pretty low (20k RAM|PLS|/-), but didn't notice any unusual activity from Rambooster.

Had several crashes yesterday.

Like HTH, it generally occurs after about 40min of music playing from a playlist.

Did not have any crashes when Track inf was displayed, but I did not use any other applications. MJ would play for hours!!!

It seems to occur most of the time when viewing interact from MJ and opening links which open additonial windows in IE. MJ crashed twice with three windows minimized.  After crash I still had 50% resources available.

I turned off Norton Antivirus and task manager and it did not make a difference.

I was able to continue working on other programs without having to reboot....but CPU was working harder to process the application I was using. Also, was able to close MJ and restart MJ without rebooting!

Before Build 227 I had to reboot computer!!!

Playback Settings
     Between track: Cross-faded(aggresive)
     Duration: 8.7s
     Seeking: Smooth(fast)
     Stop: immindiate
     Output: Waveout
     Bitdepth: 16 bit
     Wave Out Setting: Device Wavemapper
     Performance: Slider set to middle
I have always had the top portion of playback settings flickering the bottom have is not. Whats up with that!!!

Was playing a burned cd had one other application open (MediaFaceII)
Had just closed MediaFaceII maximized MJ noticed it was buffering and then it crashed with the same DIBENG.DLL problem.

Closed MJ and than re-opened MJ started playing the cd were it crashed and got the error below.

Perhaps there is no connection to the DIBENG.DLL bug, but hey! I am not the expert..so I will let you take a look at it.
