JRemote basic questions...
« on: September 23, 2013, 02:37:00 pm »

I know zip about JRemote. I use an ancient iMac as my main front end for serious music using the new MC for Mac program. It is the only apple product I own. I would really like to add a remote control for that system but hate iphones. It does not appear anyone has made the JRemote program/app for android yet so....I few basic questions.

If I was to buy an old iphone or iPod to use only as a remote (not phone service), how new must the device be to use the app?

As I have no desire to add a iphone to my Verizon contract, could a phone work without phone service?

If I do this, would the remote work with MC19 on my other PC based computers?

For Android, there is Gizmo, wich will deliver similar experience (but not as good as JRemote in my opinion)

Old and new ipods/iphones/ipads with ios 6 or higher should run JRemote just fine, but I recommend the iphone 4s or higher because is faster

If you want to run JRemote in your home (inside your wifi network) you don't need phone service or 3G.  If you want to stream your music to your device outside the home network you will need 3G.

Thank you....I tried Gizmo and never had it work right so I'll try JRemote when I can find a nice, cheap iPhone as a remote.

I use an iPad with iOS 5.1, but be warned that the developer is thinking of making newer releases of JRemote only compatible with iOS 6 and above.
