Can anyone do a quick test? - Gizmo and Streaming Radio Playback
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:17:00 pm »

I've been struggling to work out what is happening with Internet Radio Streams being played by Gizmo.

If anyone has time could you please test the following?
- In MC --> File --> Open URL and past in the examples below (both should play immediately in MC)
- Right Click --> Sent to a playlist
- In Gizmo go to the playlist and try to play the radio station

Example 1: Should work (after 45 sec of preparing) - http://shoutcast.2gb.com:80/2gb (it is an MP3 stream)
Example 2: Does not work (fails after 45 sec of preparing --> "Error communicating with the server") - http://sc.2dayfm.com.au:80/ (it is an AAC Stream)

FYI - Matt thinks that the both the 45 sec delay and the failure to play to the AAC stream is Andriod related as Gizmo just passes the link off..... but I think there could be more to this as (both stations can be played on Andriod Devices without any pauses though I do note the Video player is used for the AAC stream and it is a M3U8 playlist).

Thanks in advance!

Samsung Galaxy Y Duos (GT-S6102)
Android 2.3.6
Kernel 2.6.35.7
Gizmo 18.0.37

2GB works, 2DayFM doesn't

Google Asus Nexus 7
Android 4.3
Kernel 3.1.10-g1e8b3d8
Gizmo 19.0.35

Neither works - get Error communicating with Server.  Cannot use Gizmo for anything else.  Had to Force Stop the application to return normal functionality

cheers,

Steve

upgraded Gizmo to 19.0.41 on the Google Asus Nexus 7
2GB now works
2DayFM still doesn't work.  (Error communicating with Server),  Gizmo unusable after this until force restart of the app

Steve

Thanks for that - this is what I'm seeing.  After some more testing it seems that the AAC streams do play but only when handed off to the video player.

The real answer would be for Media Server to transcode them as with other Music / Video tracks before streaming them to Gizmo.

Good news!  I found a stream for 2DayFM that works with Gizmo - it is rtsp://wms2.scahw.com.au/live/2dayfm.stream

Oddly it works only in Gizmo but fails in MC - go figure!
