I have chosen AIFF as my audio import setting. However, when the import process starts, it show as cda and not AIFF. Why is that and is there a way to convert cda to AIFF?

Welcome.
If you're ripping, the files on the CD are cda and the ripped files will be whatever you choose (ie. AIFF). In other words, what you're seeing is normal. Rip to AIFF and you'll have AIFF files on your hard drive and in your library.
