AverTV Hybrid Volar HD USB
« on: September 28, 2013, 06:38:26 am »

Hi Yaobing!
I have an AverTV Hybrid Volar HD USB (H830) installed on Windows 7 64bit and Windows 8 Pro 64bit. Media Center 18 amd MC 19 DON'T recognize it while Windows Media Center does. I think it is supported by MC 18/19.

2, Greek TV broadcasts in PAL B/G. Could you have an entry just "Greece" and not 3 different entries!...

Thanks,
George

Please go to Tools > options > Television > Advanced and click "Copy television related filter info to clipboard" then paste the result here.

It was done that way for transition from one format to another in Greece.  I suppose the transition has long been complete, and we can just use one.

You should see digital tuner "AVerMedia USB Polaris Digital Tuner" and analog tuner " AVerMedia USB Polaris Series Capture Driver".  When you said MC18 and MC19 don't recognize them, do you mean you can not find them listed under "Devices", or MC will not use them?

I do find them listed under devices, but MC will not use them. When I scan for channels it finds nothing and the red light on the USB doesn't get turned on.

Thanks for the logs.  I see two things in the logs.  One is that MC could not render audio stream.  The second is that it tied to tune to channels but nothing comes out.  The first problem should not affect channel tuning, so it is a puzzle why the tuner would not tune to the analog channels.

George,

Please first update to 19.0.49, then download this DLL.  After downloading the file, unzip it, and copy JRTelevision.dll into MC19 (build 49) installation folder, replacing existing file.

With this DLL I am trying to fix the problem not audio not being rendered with your device.  Not sure what it will do with the problem of tuner not tuning.

It seems that the behavior is worse with the DLL that I posted (assuming you used it to capture the new logs you sent me).  Can you change back to plain build 49 (by re-installing it) and email me a log again?

Also, if you have not tried, please try choosing "Greece (Germany PAL_G)", instead of "Greece" from, the country list.

Hi Yaobing,

I tried everything, as you suggested, but no luck. It's weird, though, that in tuner properties I keep having to switch from NTSC_M to PAL_B. In my opinion, it should change automatically, since I select Greece PAL etc.
To wrap it up, I'll remove TV from MC 19, and I'll use Windows MC to watch TV.
Thanks for the support.

Hi George,

I discovered a bug that may have some impact on your situation.  Please do a test for me.

Open registry editor (RegEdit.exe) (Start > type regedit in the search box, and select regedit.exe from the top of the list).  Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 19\TV Settings\Shared

You should find an entry named "Country Code".  Check the Data value of this entry.  Does it correspond to your country code? Is it 0x0000001e (30)?  If not, double-click the entry to change the value to decimal value 30 (or hexadecimal value 0x0000001e).

Hi,
I just did it and corrected the country code (it was 215). Here are my TV Tuner settings in MC 19.58:
TV Tuner--Properties--
Channel: 4    Country: 30  Tuning Space: 0   Tuning Mode: TV
Input: Antenna     Video Standards: It always shows NTSC_M above the box and in the box I select PAL_B or PAL_G

Thanks,
George

PS.  In the next builds PLEASE have just ONE "Greece" (PAL_B/G)

PS2: I forgot to mention that I scanned for channels but nada.

What is the value of "TV Format" saved in registry under the following key?

Under that key, there are several different setting values saved.  One of the name is "TV Format".  What is the value of that?

There is only one subfolder in that key called "Channels". There is nowhere any "TV Format" value.

Oops.  I meant to say "TV Standard", not "TV Format".  Sorry for the confusion.  The image you emailed to me shows that the correct value for PAL_B was saved in registry.  MC should be using the value.  Each time you choose a value, MC saves it and uses it the next time the tuner is loaded.  If you keep seeing NTSC_M, something is wrong with the device driver.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, you change the value by doing the following:

1. TV Options... > Devices, select the device and click Configure...
2. On the resulting window, double-click "Video Capture Filter..." in the list under Advanced.
3. On the resulting property page(s), choose PAL_G or PAL_B.
4. Click OK, and OK, and OK (three times).

But the next time you go there, the value reverts to NTSC_M?

The video capture value remains as PAL_B. But in TV Tuner properties It's NTSC_M in the white box. I'm emailing an attachment.

If you look at the TV tuner property page more carefully, I think you will find that the actually selection of TV standard appears above the drop-down list.  In the image you sent to me, PAL_B actually appears there.  So it probably is not a problem.
