Author Topic: More accurate BPM analysis or better way to determine mellow songs?  (Read 2694 times)

I am trying to use smart playlists and BPM info so I can listen to just mellow songs.  Right now I have my smart playlist set to look for songs with BPM less than 100.  However, the BPM analysis seems to be all over the map.  Is there a better way to do this?

I asked a similar question not too long ago, about the reliability of BPM.  JRiver indicated it was a difficult metric to capture reliably, for a variety of reasons.  So I don't consider it useful.

You might consider Styles or Moods, as like those over at AMG.

thank you for the reply.  If BPM is a not very useful is there a plugin that I could use that would create a smart playlist within JRiver MC based on Mood and star rating?  I am using JRiver in a headless environment so I usually only have access via JRemote.

If you have ratings and moods populated, a smartlist might be able to do this.  Do you have an idea of criteria you want to use?

I'm also very disappointed by the results of bpm analysis
I've read all the threads concerning this issue, it seems tricky to change, but nothing has been done to improve it.
Indeed, As "Thoooe", i find it very usefull for smartlist.
and if it seems to work for low beats, it doesn't with high beats at all.
And usually has to be divided by 2...

Anyway to improve this?
A lot is done for audio analysis and volume levelling, why not for BPM???
for me, it's the same logic: same volume, same bpm, so we can have perfect smartlists!

Thanks fot considering that
