LCtheDJ, is it safe to run a beta version at a dance? Has MJ or Windows ever crashed while you were playing a song. Do you tell people something might happen to the music?
So far, the betas of v8 have not had problems with just playback as I use it.
I did have 2 crashes about three years back when I was using Win98 and a slower computer. With a faster computer and more ram and Windows 2000 Pro, I have had no crashes. I do keep a portable MiniDisc player plugged in and ready as a backup just in case.
No, I don't warn there may be a problem; there could be a problem with any sound system. I've seen a DJ playing CDs trip over his own main power cord and stop the music that way. As with any public performance, it's a good idea to have a plan 'B' ready to go.
BTW, in case anyone wants to know, I use a Sony VAIO notebook with a 750 MHz Pentium III, 512 MB ram, with a USB optical mouse attached. The audio is fed through a Numark mixer to a pair of JBL EON G2 15" speakers with built-in amps that can supply 300 watts to each woofer and 100 watts to each horn. At about 1/5 capacity they will output about 90 dB in a room the size of a half-court basketball gymnasium.
