Live TV shared over media network with cable card?
« on: November 17, 2013, 01:42:31 pm »

As a comcast customer, I need my tv tuner to support cable cards!

I'd like to be able to plug in my coax, and:
1) share live tv across the network, giving each HTPC the option to watch its own channel independantly
2) record live tv
3) interact with comcast on demand menus.
4) current live broadcast program seraching and filtering for live tv

All through jriver media servers and clients. Is this supported in 19? or will it only do non-encrypted channels?

Can we also ignore the no record flags?

Was thinking of this card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=15-706-001&

Thanks!!

How can I know which channels are encrypted and which aren't? I am using comcast.

I'd prefer not to spend $200 on a device that isnt useful to me.

Generally speaking, premium channels are definitely encrypted.  Other than that, I can not say for sure.  I have Comcast service and I am able to watch non-premium channels using Ceton InfiniTV or HDHomerun Prime.  Example: channels of your local OTA stations, CNN, Discovery Channel, Disney etc.  I have never done an testing of all channels, so I can not say for sure.  Furthermore, I do not know if Comcast has different policy for different locations.

Maybe you can ask Comcast?
