MC18 quits unexpectedly on OS X 10.6.8

I have a white macbook: 1.83 GHz intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. When I open MC 18 and click 'audio' in the left hand column the program quits unexpectedly. Anyone maybe understand why? Thanks for your help.
